Guardian’s sister was found dead but the Catahoula mix continued to try to protect her when officials from Kingsville-Kleberg Health Department Animal Control & Care Center arrived at the ‘heart wrenching’ scene.
“This kid wouldn’t let anyone mess with his sister,” Kingsville Kleberg Health Department Animal Control & Care Center shared on Facebook.
Adding that it wasn’t easy for team members to convince the dog they were there to help.
The American dog growled at the animal control officers (ACOs) as he placed his paw on top of his sibling, the organisation explained. Photos taken by the officers at the scene in Kingsville show Guardian’s protective stance as they tried to approach the pair. The dogs, Catahoula mixes, were side by side on side of the road. Eventually, officers were able to lure the dog away. They named him Guardian and were keeping him on a stray hold for four days.
Many social media users are very touched by the post, as Guardian is showing as that the love instic for family doesn’t only apply for humans but also for dogs.
One commented: “So heartbreaking. Glad guardian has a home. RIP to his sister.”
“Animals have bigger hearts than most humans. Thank you for saving this sweet, smart dog,” said another.
Thankfully many people were willing to adope little Guardian and that’s exactly what happened, very quickly he found a loving home.
