Saved just in time by the French organization, Fondation 30 Millions d’Amis, in Viels-Maisons (50 miles east of Paris), last January, this Cane Corso was found in an alarming state. Starved by his owner, Sky weighed less than 50 pounds instead of the 100 pounds he should have weighed on average.Without the intervention of the animal protection association, the two-and-a-half-year-old dog wouldn’t have survived a few more days. Angélique, the investigator for the foundation explained:

The police confirmed there was no dog food at the house. When they asked the owner what the dog ate, he placed two frozen chicken cutlets on the table. The poor dog jumped on them and entirely devoured them even though they were frozen.

Once rescued, Sky was transferred to urgent care at the vet, who noticed his severe malnutrition, dander and dull coat.

Traumatized, the dog was placed at the shelter “Les Amis des Bêtes” in Soissons, France, where he is recovering and is progressively regaining his appetite: “We are giving him four or five rations of food a day. He jumps on it every time and doesn’t leave a crumb!” described Angélique. Despite his skittishness, the Cane Corso seems to be aware that the worst is behind him. “He seems to understandhis freedom! He’s a great dog!” she added. As for the dog’s owner, a charge of neglect has been filed against him and the ownership of the dog has been temporarily given to Fondation 30 Millions d’Amis.
