Every war has its heroes – smaller or bigger, but always there. Unfortunately, the latter are often almost unnoticed. Layka, a German Shepherd, is one of them.
Layka was a military dog, but now she is well-deservedly retired
During her service, she was extremely loyal to her team members. She was willing to do anything for them. Literally…
She w asn’t even afraid to sacrifice her own life…
When members of her team were attacked, she didn’t hesitate for a moment…
She knew exactly what to do. At one point, when a gun was fired at one of the soldiers, Layka rushed to the rescue and took four bullets.
After the fight, she was immediately taken to hospital
Military doctors fought for her life for 7 hours, but eventually they managed to save her. Unfortunately, she lost a paw as a result of her wounds.
When the soldiers returned to the country, one of them, the one whose life Layka saved, decided to do something for her as a thank you. He adopted her and took her to his home to care for her.
He wanted to make sure she wouldn’t miss anything
Even though some people say it’s dangerous – a military dog that has been through so much, stays at home with small children… Her new owner has a different opinion and is very happy that Layka is with them. His children too.
The whole family is grateful to her for saving their master’s life
This is another story proving that dogs, out of love and devotion, can do a lot… A lot.
