A kind-hearted woman has rushed tor rescue a dog in distress after it got trapped in a freezing river.
The heartwarming incident took place in Dujiangyan of Chengdu city in Sichuan, southwest China on Thursday, December 24.
Video widely shared on Douyin, a Chinese equivalent of Twitter, shows the unidentified woman dipping into the cold water in her barefoot as she approached the c anine.
The poor dog is said to have fallen into the river and appears to have suffered minor hypothermia.
It couldn’t move its legs after becoming trapped in freezing temperatures and it is struggling to keep its head above water.
The woman braves the cold and uses a tree branch to drag the pooch closer to her.
The scared dog is seen trying to swim before the volunteer rescues it and lifts it off the water.
A few passers-by help to catch the animal and bring it to safety.
The clip has touched thousands of hearts over social media and viewers commented to thank the woman for saving the animal.
One penned: “You’re an angel! Thanks for rescuing that poor pooch in that cold weather!”
Another wrote: “Not everyone can do this, this takes a lot of bravery. You’re amazing!”
It is not clear if the dog is a stray or a pet from nearby shops.
The pooch came to the woman every time she visited and was seen welling up as he waited for food.
